Mr. Henry CHAI serves as a Senior Counsel at the firm, assisting in managing the operation and quality control of the firm's patent practice, including substantive quality and process management. He has over 30 years of experience in the intellectual property field. He began his career in 1996, working for six years as a patent examiner in the mechanical field at the Chinese Patent Office, where he examined over 600 invention patents. He possesses an in-depth understanding of China's patent examination practices, including both procedural and substantive aspects of patent examination.
Henry has served a large number of domestic and international technology-driven corporate clients and has personally handled over 1,500 cases. The scope of his practice includes, but is not limited to: patent mining, patent portfolio planning, patent drafting, patent strategy and portfolio management, patent filing and prosecution, patent reexamination, patent invalidation, patent litigation, patent search and analysis, patent design-around, and freedom-to-operate analysis. His technical practice areas are primarily focused on the mechanical field. His working languages are Chinese and English.
1996 until now
Henry had headed the patent search and consulting business team consisted of approximately 30 patent attorneys specializing in various technical fields, including mechanical engineering, electronics, and chemistry. He trained and guided the team in delivering patent search and consulting services to both domestic and international clients. His key responsibilities included patent early warning projects, IP management consulting, patent quality supervision, FTO search and analysis, invalidation search and analysis, novelty search and analysis, patent portfolio planning, patent design-around, and other patent consulting services. The team was well-renowned in China.
Henry has also managed a patent department with over 80 staff members. and was dedicated to serving domestic innovators through a "one-stop" service model. This model integrated patent mining, patent portfolio planning, patent training, patent search and analysis, patent drafting, patent filing and prosecution, PCT international patent applications, patent strategy and portfolio management, and other related services within a single department. This approach significantly enhanced both work quality and efficiency, establishing a premium brand image among domestic innovators.
