Important Notice: Changes to Software Copyright Registration Requirements Effective March 15, 2026
According to the latest notice issued by the China Copyright Protection Center (CPCC), the application form for computer software copyright registration was optimized at 18:00 on March 15, 2026 in order to further standardize software copyright registration practices.
The key changes are as follows:
- The previous version of the application form has been abolished. Starting from 18:00 on March 15, 2026, the old version of the application form is no longer valid. Applications submitted using the previous form will not be accepted.
- More detailed functional description required. The functional description section of the application form now requires a more detailed explanation. The word limit has been expanded from 100–200 words to 500–1300 words.
- Additional signature and declaration requirements. Except for the seal of the corportate/organization of the applicant, a handwriting declaration of integrity with signature and ID number of the in-charge person is required in the application form. This means that applicants will need to complete a newly prepared application form and integrity declaration, and proceed through the submission process again under the updated requirements.
In addition, based on consultation with the CPCC, applications that have already been prepared or submitted but have not yet been formally accepted must also comply with the new requirements. This means that previous submissions may need to be withdrawn and resubmitted using the updated application form and documentation.
Chang Tsi & Partners will continue to closely monitor official developments and requirements. For applications currently in progress, our team will contact clients individually to provide detailed explanations and assist with necessary updates.
