On June 26, 2013, significant revisions to China's Trademark Law were deliberated by the National People's Congress.   Significant changes include that China is expected to double the compensation ceiling for trademark infringement to CNY  2 million (325,400 U.S. dollars),  In previous drafts compensation had been increased to CNY 1 million yuan, up from CNY 500,000 under current law.  The draft has also strengthened the responsibility of trademark agencies so that the agencies are not allowed to accept entrustment if they know or should know that their clients are conducting a malicious registration or infringing others' rights of trademarks, according to the draft.  In the past decade there has been a near-twentyfold increase in the number of trademark agencies in China. Currently, over 9,000 general agencies and over 8,000 law firms in are engaged in trademark related intellectual property services.  Other revisions being deliberated include fixing and shortening the time period of various application, review of official refusal and opposition proceeding.
