Over the past 25 years since Macau's return to the motherland, under the guidance of China's "One Country, Two Systems" policy and with the strong support of the central government and the mainland, Macau has transformed into a modern international metropolis. An increasing number of applicants are seeking intellectual property protection in Macau, particularly in the area of patent applications. As the Power of Attorney (POA) is a crucial document in this process, today we will outline the key considerations for the Macau patent application POA, and provide an overview of the relevant official fees, to help applicants smoothly submit their patent applications in Macau.

Regarding the Power of Attorney for Macau Applications:

  1. Submission Time: the applicant(s) can submit the notarized POA after filing the application, but it must be done within one month of receiving the notification to correct deficiencies. If the applicant(s) miss this window, he(they) will need to request an extension.
  2. Fee Waiver Deadline: To avoid official fees, the notarized POA should be submitted within one month of receiving the notification to correct deficiencies.
  3. Extension Request: The deadline for requesting an extension is the same as the deadline for responding to the notification to correct deficiencies.
  4. Extension Details: Each extension for submitting the POA can only be granted for one month at a time. Each extension incurs an official fee of MOP 200.

By keeping these points in mind, the applicant(s) can ensure timely submission and avoid unnecessary costs.
